ABE: ADULT BASIC EDUCATION
Adult Basic Education is a program designed specifically for adults performing below the sixth-grade level. Adult Basic Education assists in the development of basic literacy and life skills necessary for successful employment and citizenship.
GED PREPARATION: STATE OF FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
Individuals prepare for the GED exam through classes that are conducted in a tutorial style. Following initial testing in the designated areas, students follow a personalized educational plan outlined by the instructor, based solely on individuals needs. Students who successfully pass the GED test receive a State of Florida High School Diploma.
GED Classes are designed for individuals who:
- Left high school without graduating.
- Have a foreign diploma but would like to have one from the United States as well.
- Need a high school diploma for employment.
Applicants for all GED preparation courses must:
- Make and appointment to take the TABE placement test by registering in the Student Services Office. There is a $10 cash fee to take the test and you must have a picture identification.
- Take the TABE placement test on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8:30 am or Tuesdays at 5:00 pm
- Please arrive 45 minutes early.
- Score ninth-grade level or higher in Reading on a basic skills test
- Be at least 16 years of age (must show picture ID / driver license).
- Make an appointment with your guidance counselor.
- Bring withdrawal forms from high school if you are under 18 years old.

AAAE: APPLIED ACADEMIC for ADULT EDUCATION
Students whose admission scores fall below minimum standards for their programs at McFatter Technical Center are referred to Academic Services. Based upon an analysis of test data and using a system of diagnostic teaching, students receive individualized instruction of specific skills in reading, mathematics, language and study skills. Completion of Academic Services is a requirement for graduation/certification in adult programs.
